Last Saturday, we went to the local Saturday Farmer's Market to check the week's offerings. Tables with some Community Garden produce, herbal salves and tinctures locally made, baked goods, jewelry, etc. They were also having demonstrations and lectures on cooking like the ancients with local plants. Hearts of sotol, Mormon Tea, firemaking demos. All you Survivor folks - this was good instruction - not that I'm applying - you know I'd be voted out week 1 or 2 . . . you know what I mean. Ha! For those of you who don't know, we've had a running Survivor Pool at work (ex-work now) - each of us had a survivor avatar. Up until the last season - I was voted out first or second almost every time! Too funny. But, last season, I ended up in the final 3. Unbelievable.

Sotol was cooked for 24 hours in a sealed pit fire. |
It had a flavor similar to heart of palm, but , definitely needed a few more hours of cooking. It was a little chewy. |
Starting to smoke |
String wrapped around a dowel provided the friction for combustion |

Summer selling Summer's Love Bread - very yummy! Summer is a neighbor . . . lives across the street, or rather, highway . . .
Next post, on to Barton Warnock Center at the State Park.
